It's Hard to Hug a Porcupine
You guys! I WROTE A BOOK!!
I actually wrote this story 11 years ago, but it's FINALLY available!
I wrote the story of Priscilla Porcupine to help me process a really rough relationship I was trying to navigate a few years ago. For lots of (boring) reasons, the project got put on hold. But about a year ago I pulled it back out of the files. A friend of mine was also working on a children's book, so we decided to work together on our books and keep each other going. Boy am I glad!
Scott and I spent the evening with one of our favorite couples (the Benders) soon after I started working on it again, and they read the story and loved it. At that time Lauren said she would love to read it to their kids someday.
Well... guess who got pregnant a few months later. Oh yes.
It was ON. I HAD to get the book published before their first child was born! So I teamed up with an artist friend, Jon Hogge (who happens to be good friends with the Benders, too), and he made the story come to life with wonderful drawings.
The baby shower was on June 11 and we shocked the Benders with the very first copy of "It's Hard to Hug a Porcupine." AHH!! I posted something about it on Facebook and I can't even tell you how surprised and grateful I am for the way folks have responded!
Another couple that is very dear to us, the Perrys, lost a little baby in October of 2016, and the book is dedicated to sweet baby Willow Perry. There is no doubt that the four hours she lived after her birth do not begin to represent the incredible impact her life has made - and is still making - on countless lives.
We hope this book impacts people from birth to 100 years old who need a little perspective on loving the porcupines in our lives!
Now it's available on Amazon.com and here on our site. (Please know that I will sign every copy ordered here at lovebetter.world but I can't sign copies ordered on Amazon because they ship straight from the distributor.)
